Why Women & Girls?
Throughout history women and girls face additional obstacles and discrimination solely because of their gender. As an organization of business and professional women we feel uniquely qualified to help women and girls live their dreams.
Soroptimist means "best for women" and that's what we strive to be—an organization of women at their best helping other women to be their best. As a volunteer organization of business and professional women we feel uniquely qualified to help women and girls live their dreams.
It's true that both men and women live in poverty, face discrimination and must overcome obstacles. But throughout history—in every country in the world—women and girls face additional obstacles and discrimination solely because of their gender.
What do Soroptimists do?
Membership in Soroptimist means belonging to the wider organization at the international, national, regional, and local level. All clubs participate in several cornerstone programs but the local club’s focus in the community determines what projects will be supported by its membership. Please refer to sections—Projects, Committees and Events—of this website for more detailed explanations.
How can I learn more about the local club?
Attending a weekly meeting is the best way to learn all about the club. Currently, meetings are conducted every Thursday morning at 7:00 AM at the Port Angeles Senior Center . Meetings include a business portion followed by a guest speaker, special event, or presentation. Light breakfast is provided and the meeting is open to all members and guests. If you are interested in attending one of these meetings as a guest, please feel free to contact us for additional details and location.
Does it cost to join?
Yes. Membership in SIPAJS is established through completion and submission of written application and payment of annual dues. For the first year of membership, the dues are slightly higher because joining fees apply; however, dues for subsequent years are a bit less. How much dues will be is determined annually by Soroptimist International of America. In addition, the local club adds fees that allow the club to provide services to its members.
How does the club support its community programs?
To fund scholarships, awards, and community projects, Soroptimist International Jet Set conducts fundraising activities throughout the year to raise money for budgeted programs and projects. These are club-wide events and all members are expected to volunteer their time to make these events successful.
Is the local club accepting new members at this time?
Yes! At its core, Soroptimist International Jet Set is a service organization and always welcomes new members. The club thrives on new ideas, dedication to service, willingness to be involved, camaraderie and friendship, and networking. Please consider attending a business meeting to find out more and if being a member would be a good fit for you.
