2026 LYD Awards

Danielle Rose is in her final year to completing her Bachelors in Elementary ED with a special ED minor. She is a single mom of two and loves to take them hiking in the PNW and spend time at the beach! Her goal is to teach the 2nd grade. This award will help her take her teaching license test and get her closer to her goal!
In her application Danielle stated, “This award will help me greatly by reducing the need to take out a private loan to complete school. I work really hard to make sure my children have everything they need, and furthering my education will strengthen that foundation. I want to lead by example and create a better life for my children than what I had.”

Carmen Segundo will use her award to pursue a degree in Communications in Multimedia at Peninsula College. After completing her studies, she plans to start her own marketing business. Carmen has overcome significant challenges, including domestic violence and homelessness, as she works to build a better life for herself and her two daughters.
“Thanks to all the love and support the community has shown us, I have been able to build my confidence to overcome the curveballs that life likes to throw,” she says.
